Type 75 – desk lamp, jet black

When people picture an Anglepoise, this is usually the one: Sir Kenneth Grange's Type 75, a matt black aluminium shade on a sprung arm that holds wherever you put it. The constant tension springs do the work, so a fingertip moves it and nothing droops afterwards. A desk lamp you buy once.

• Designed by Sir Kenneth Grange, long-standing design director at Anglepoise
• Matt painted aluminium shade, chrome-plated fittings, and a cast iron base beneath an aluminium cover
• Anglepoise constant tension spring technology holds any position you set, without drift
